Update its print DPI without resizing pixels

DPI metadata is changed only on this device; no file is uploaded.

What does an image DPI changer do?

An image DPI changer updates the print-resolution metadata stored in a PNG or JPG file. DPI means dots per inch, and it tells print software how large the same pixel dimensions should appear on paper. This tool changes that instruction without stretching, shrinking or otherwise resampling the pixels in your source image.

How to change image DPI

  • Upload a PNG or JPG image.
  • Choose a common print setting such as 72, 96, 150, 300 or 600 DPI.
  • Enter a custom whole-number DPI value when required.
  • Check the estimated print size and download the updated copy.

The pixel width and height do not change. For example, a 3000 pixel wide image prints about 10 inches wide at 300 DPI, or about 20 inches wide at 150 DPI. The image contains the same amount of detail either way; the metadata changes how a print program interprets its physical size. This is useful when a print provider asks for a certain DPI setting but you do not want to alter the pixel data.

DPI versus pixel resolution

DPI is not the same as image dimensions. A 1200 by 1200 pixel image remains 1200 by 1200 after changing its DPI. Lower DPI makes the requested print larger, while higher DPI makes it smaller. Changing metadata cannot create missing detail for a large print, so check both the pixel dimensions and the printer's size requirements before ordering.

Private local processing

The browser updates PNG density data or JPEG JFIF density data directly on your device. Your image never leaves the browser and the original file remains unchanged. The downloaded version retains the same visible image while carrying your selected DPI for compatible print software and common desktop publishing workflows today.

Frequently asked questions

Will changing DPI resize my image pixels?

No. The tool changes print metadata only, keeping the pixel width and height the same.

Which image formats are supported?

You can update DPI metadata in PNG and JPG files.

Does DPI make a low-resolution image sharper?

No. It changes intended print size, not the amount of image detail.
