What is a line sorter?
A line sorter rearranges a list so every item appears in a useful order. Put one item on each line, select the sorting method and generate a clean result. It is useful for names, keywords, inventory values, short notes, IDs, tags and many other lists that are easier to scan when they follow a consistent order.
How to sort text lines
- Paste or type one item on each line.
- Choose alphabetical, numeric or line-length sorting.
- Select ascending or descending order.
- Optionally remove blank lines or duplicate entries.
- Sort the list, review it, then copy or download it.
Alphabetical sorting compares text from A to Z, while descending order reverses that sequence. The sorter keeps the original order for items that compare equally, helping make a predictable result. Use the output field to check the list before replacing your original version, especially when it contains important records.
Choose the right sorting method
Numeric sorting is best when each line represents a number, including values written with commas. Numbers are arranged by value, so 2 comes before 10. Lines that are not valid numbers appear after numeric entries and are ordered alphabetically. Line-length sorting compares the number of characters instead, which can help organize labels, code snippets or writing prompts from shortest to longest.
Case-sensitive sorting treats uppercase and lowercase letters as distinct. Leave it off for a more natural list when case should not affect the order. Turning on duplicate removal keeps the first occurrence of matching text; when case sensitivity is off, entries that differ only by case count as duplicates. Blank-line removal can tidy lists copied from a spreadsheet or document.
Private browser sorting
Sorting takes place locally with your browser. Your list is not sent to a server, saved by this tool or shared with anyone. You can sort and download temporary lists without an account. As with any bulk cleanup operation, keep the source list if it is valuable and glance through the result before using it in an import, report or publication.
